Event Description: 

The state of California Department of Water Resources final water conservation framework addresses requirements of the governor's Executive Order B-37-16; provides information on efficient water use; and includes a proposed implementation timeline.

Framework's 4 Priorities

  • Use Water Wisely includes adoption of new water use standards for all urban water use and a new urban water use target methodology. 
  • Eliminate Water Waste focuses on water system leaks, reporting and capital improvements.
  • Strengthen Local Drought Resilience will require urban water suppliers to submit Water Shortage Contingency Plans and conduct 5-year Drought Risk Assessments. 
  • Improve Agricultural Water Use Efficiency and Drought Planning includes development of water budgets, implementation, efficiency measures and drought plans.

Speakers:

Peter Brostrom, state of California Department of Water Resources Section Chief for Water Use Efficiency will discuss implementation.

Dana Friehauf, Water Resources Manager, San Diego County Water Authority, will speak about legislative proposals and opportunities for stakeholder input.
