Kearny Mesa Commercial Site

CHALLENGE: Headquartered in San Diego, Solar Turbines Inc. (a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc) manufactures industrial gas turbines for electric power generation, gas compression and pumping systems.  In alignment with corporate sustainability goals, leaders at Solar Turbines’ Kearny Mesa facility wanted to conserve water in response to severe shortages.

San Diego County Water Authority’s Kearny Mesa Headquarters

CHALLENGE: In 2006, we realized our headquarter’s landscape wasn’t as attractive as it could be. The maintenance was a significant drain on our facilities staff. More importantly, it was using more water than necessary. The original trees didn’t produce the shade that helps eliminate evaporation. And the expanse of sod in the back was clearly a water guzzler.

Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens

CHALLENGE: Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, a popular craft brewery and restaurant, is located in North San Diego County.  Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co. CEO and founder, wanted to create an eclectic setting that would be unique, organic, and versatile.  The one-acre site was challenging because it is located within a detention basin that accepts stormwater from the surrounding commercial/industrial park.
